What you need to know
Remember the ad slogans, Long distance is the next best thing to being there? If you've ever recorded L.A. talent via digital patch, you know that old AT&T tagline definitely does not apply. |
Which is why we created Patches
Created by engineers dissatisfied with their options for recording L.A. voiceovers, Patches delivers what the other studios don't: a combination of great sound and amazing client service.
Great sound. Without that nothing else matters.
Large, extremely quiet, tight sounding studios mean quality voice recording. |
Patches features unusually high 20-foot ceilings and generous 3-foot bass traps in ceilings and walls. Here we have true floated isolation, with independent concrete slabs sitting on iso-blocks, studio interior walls built on floating slab and studio exterior walls disconnected from interior walls. |
Our "Zero" noise air conditioning system has double width and double length ducts, and oversized registers. |
While many other studios cannot give you total separation, Patches can. So if one actors' voice will be phone futzed or otherwise post processed, if one actor's voice will be replaced later, or if the voices need to be hard panned with no leakage, we can give you the total separation your session requires. |
What type of mic do you prefer? We'll offer you a premium selection of top-of-the-line tube, solid state and dynamic microphones. Just tell us what brand you like-Neuman, sennheiser, Sony, Shure, Soundelux-and we'll provide it. |
Plus, you can choose from a top selection of mic preamps, including John Hardy, Grace, TC Electronics, Millenia Media, FocusRite and Neve. |
All of our equipment is top quality. The entire recording chain is digital. The microphone preamp output is converted to digital with Apogee 24-bit converters, and the signal stays digital right into codec. |
We offer mutliple patch capabilities, phone patch capabilities, 3/4" playback and timecode DAT machines. |
Then there's the part about amazing client service |
A digital patch session with Patches is the closest thing to doing a session in your own studio. |
Once you tell us your preferences, we'll set up for your session-to your specifications-and have it all ready when you are. Just click on the button below and tell us: |
- slates or no slates
- if you prefer time call outs
- your mic and mic pre-amp choices
- how you want limiting, eq and pop filter set up
At Patches, our sessions start on time. Each control room has two studios, so talent is taken directly to a studio and set up when they arrive, even if one talent is already recording
Our control rooms are set up to keep you in control. Need to send script changes or other information? Each control room has its own FAX, so there's no running to "the office" to see if the document came in. But it doesn't end there. Our codecs are also in the control room, instead of the usual machine room, which means a higher degree and faster control of dial-up connections.
Great sound, amazing service...and happy actors
Actors love working at Patches. That's because our studios are set up with "living room" comforts, including overstuffed chairs and even a writing desk. We can offer your voice talent a choice of headphones or headphone-less monitoring, whichever he or she prefers. Specially crafted copy stands reduce glare and troublesome reflections. And our "line of sight" video monitoring lets the actors see video without taking their eyes off the script
